Privacy Notice

Last updated: 19 October 2026

This Privacy Notice explains how Chui Ventures (“we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal data when you interact with us, including when you submit your startup for investment through our website, our “Ask Nyawira” chatbot, our Apply form, or by email. We handle your personal data in line with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019 and applicable data protection laws.

Who we are

Chui Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm investing in African founders, and is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at [email protected]. Our offices are in Nairobi, Kenya and Lagos, Nigeria.

What personal data we collect

When you pitch to us or contact us, we may collect:

  • Your name and the names of co-founders or team members.
  • Contact details such as your email address and phone number.
  • Your nationality or country of operation.
  • Information about your company, including its stage, sector, traction, financials and fundraising plans.
  • Documents you share with us, such as pitch decks and supporting materials.
  • Any other information you choose to provide in your submission or correspondence.

We collect this information directly from you. Please do not include sensitive personal data unless it is necessary for your pitch.

How we use your personal data

  • To review, assess and screen your startup as a potential investment.
  • To carry out due diligence and evaluate opportunities.
  • To communicate with you about your submission, including acknowledging that we received it and sharing our decision.
  • To organise and analyse our deal pipeline internally.
  • To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

We use automated tools, including AI, to help organise and make an initial assessment of submissions. These tools support our team. Investment decisions are made by people, not automatically.

Legal basis for processing

We process your personal data on the basis of your consent when you submit a pitch, to take steps at your request before any potential agreement, for our legitimate interest in evaluating and managing investment opportunities, and to comply with the law. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us.

How we share your personal data

We treat your submission as confidential. We may share your personal data with:

  • Members of our team and our professional advisors who assess opportunities.
  • Service providers who help us run our systems, such as secure cloud storage and software providers, under confidentiality obligations.
  • Co-investors or partners where relevant to a potential investment.
  • Authorities or other parties where we are required to do so by law.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing.

International transfers

We operate in Kenya and Nigeria, and some of our service providers are located elsewhere. Where your personal data is transferred across borders, we take reasonable steps to keep it protected in line with this notice and applicable law.

How long we keep your personal data

We keep your personal data for as long as needed to assess your startup, maintain our pipeline records, and meet our legal obligations. If we decide not to proceed, we may keep a limited record so we can recognise your company if you approach us again, unless you ask us to delete it.

Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to be informed about how your data is used, to access your data, to ask us to correct or delete it, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard the information you share with us.
